Located in the centre of Newport, South Wales the developer was tasked in converting this dis-used building into a Premier Inn Hotel.
Kalite were appointed on this project to design, fabricate and install timber framed extensions to both the third and fourth floors.
The lightweight nature of timber frame construction proved invaluable in this project owing to the reduced dead-load imposed on the existing Victorian structure. Using lightweight frame construction allowed the client to increase the development density by adding additional storeys of accommodation, thereby realising the full earning potential of the town centre site.
Due to the town centre location the site had limited access. However, working with our client we were able to develop a logistical plan which allowed Kalite to complete it's work without delay.
Timber frame construction has been used in hotel construction for many years, with great success. This demonstrates the true versatility of timber frame construction.
